The Alcalá de Henares City Council has presented the environmental improvement project for the Huerta de Sementales park, which will have an investment of 850,000 euros and an execution period of five months.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council has announced the rehabilitation and environmental improvement project for the Huerta de Sementales park, an initiative that is part of the municipal 'Parks with Life' initiative. The Councillor for the Environment, Vicente Pérez, was responsible for presenting the details of an intervention that aims to "recover this emblematic green space and turn it into a benchmark for urban sustainability and the naturalisation of urban environments."
The planned investment amounts to 850,000 euros, a figure that will allow for a comprehensive transformation of the area. Among the actions contemplated are the new definition of paths and the improvement of the surface, the replacement of paved areas with meadows, the relocation of the dog area, the rehabilitation of the fencing, and the renewal of furniture and lighting. A sustainable irrigation system will also be installed, and measures will be taken to increase the park's biodiversity.
The project, which has an execution period of five months, also includes a significant increase in green areas: an additional 3,300 square meters of meadows will be created, and 70 new trees of six different species will be planted, along with 450 units of shrubs of ten different species.
An ambitious plan for the city's green areas
The action in Huerta de Sementales is part of the 'Parks with Life' program, which is integrated into the comprehensive plan 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods'. This program has a total investment of over 10 million euros and affects 14 spaces throughout the city, making it the most ambitious action undertaken in the municipality in the last 25 years to modernise its green areas.
With this intervention, the Alcalá de Henares City Council seeks not only to improve the state of the park but also to provide residents with a more naturalised and sustainable space, in line with the environmental policies that the government team, led by Judith Piquet, has promoted during the legislature. The works, once awarded, will begin in the coming months, municipal sources have confirmed.
