A resident of Pozuelo de Alarcón has lashed out at Mayor Paloma Tejero after reading the latest issue of the magazine Vive Pozuelo, accusing her of demagoguery and ignorance of the city.
A resident of Pozuelo de Alarcón has expressed his discontent in a letter addressed to the director of a local media outlet, after reading the latest issue of the municipal magazine Vive Pozuelo. In it, he harshly criticises the triumphalist tone of the mayor, Paloma Tejero, and accuses her of making empty promises regarding housing and taxes.
The resident, who signs as Juan Pozuelo, claims that the publication no longer reflects the opinion of the opposition or the citizens, but only that of the governing team. "It has removed not only the opinion of the Opposition but also that of the residents who pay for it," he points out.
Promises about housing that generate scepticism
In the editorial of the magazine, Tejero states that 1,300 flats will be made available in the ARPO and Huerta Grande developments, thanks to two laws from the Community of Madrid. However, the resident believes these statements are demagogic, as they require a modification of the General Urban Planning Plan, something that should be subjected to electoral debate.
"In Pozuelo, this entails a very significant modification of the General Urban Planning Plan and, if anyone thinks of doing it, it would be good for them to propose it in their electoral programme," he writes. He also fears that these measures will alter the character of the city, known for its low heights.
"The vast majority no. The vast majority, demagogue lady, no. The political stupidity of this lady surpasses the unimaginable."
The resident also questions Tejero's assertion that young people can stay to live in Pozuelo. For him, building more flats is not the solution if it means "destroying the structure and philosophy of the city".
Criticism of economic management and tax cuts
Another point of friction is the promise to reduce the IBI to the legal minimum and eliminate the vados fee. Tejero claims that these measures will be possible thanks to the cleaning up of municipal accounts. But the resident labels it a "tall tale" and reminds that the cuts will be applied in 2027, when Tejero will have barely been mayor for five months after the May elections.
"What she says, in majestic plural, about those tax and fee cuts, promised in that Debate on the state of the Municipality, will be accrued long after the residents have gone to the polls," he points out. For him, it is a "toast to the sun" and another "trick" from a legislature based on trickery.
The resident also criticises the inherited management from the previous PP mayor, Susana Pérez Quislant, whom he accuses of leaving unpaid bills. However, he believes that Tejero is surpassing her predecessor in wastefulness.
"First, we are not in the middle of the legislature but at the end, and if she has had to clean up the accounts, it is the fault of the PP that sent us the extravagant and capricious Susana Pérez Quislant who turned the city into a wasteland," he states.
The resident concludes his letter by asking the mayor to leave: "Go away, please... You will do us a favour and do yourself a favour. Somewhere else, you will surely be able to deceive your bosses."
The controversy comes at a key moment, on the eve of the municipal elections of 2027, where residents will decide whether Tejero continues to lead the City Council. Meanwhile, the magazine Vive Pozuelo will continue to be the showcase of the local government, although for some it now only shows a sugar-coated version of reality.
