The municipality of Ciudad Real celebrates its patron festivities from July 13 to 19 with a focus on music, bullfighting, and family activities. Mayor David Triguero highlights the event's consolidation as a reference beyond the region.
Pozuelo de Calatrava is all set for its Fairs and Festivals in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, which will take place from July 13 to 19. The mayor, David Triguero, has presented a programme that, as he noted, maintains the open, popular, and regional character of recent years. The mayor emphasised that the municipality arrives at this summer with a consolidated festive agenda and many of the legislative projects on track.
Music, gastronomy, and tradition
Music will be one of the pillars of the festivities. The night of Tuesday, July 14, will kick off with La Fresca Fest, aimed at young people. On Wednesday, July 15, there will be a Gala Dinner, featuring the crowning of the Queen and Ladies of 2026, followed by a performance from the Orquesta Vulcano. The Pocillo Live will also return, which was a new addition last year and is back with success in the park area, featuring music and DJs for the younger crowd.
On Thursday, July 16, the day of the Virgen del Carmen, the night will feature the Orquesta Tronos and another session of Pocillo Live. On Friday, there will be a concert by Danny Romero, with a solidarity ticket priced at two euros benefiting local sports clubs. For residents of the Community of Madrid wishing to visit, the town is just over two hours by car from the capital, making it a great summer getaway option.
Religious events and bullfighting festivities
July 16 is the central day with religious, institutional events and a procession in honour of the Virgen del Carmen. In the morning, the Charangueo Pozueleño will tour the local hospitality establishments. Friday will be Children's Day, featuring traditional games such as pot throwing, tug of war, and activities at the pool. Pozuelo Splash will also be held, with water activities and local gastronomy.
On Saturday, there will be another Charangueo Pozueleño, a bullfighting event featuring bulls from Alcurrucén and the participation of the matadors Luis Miguel Vázquez, Antonio Linares, and Cristiano Torres, along with the Crazy Fuck Show. Sunday will conclude with activities such as a greyhound race and a meeting of bands from the José Gracia Sánchez Musical Group. Bullfighting enthusiasts from the Community of Madrid can plan a visit, as the lineup features prominent figures from the bullfighting world.
Safety and services
The mayor has highlighted that all safety protocols have been developed in citizen security meetings alongside the Local Police and Civil Guard. Additionally, throughout the official programme days, there will be an ambulance at night to provide immediate response to any incidents. Civil Protection and private security personnel will also be present.
For visitors from Madrid, Pozuelo de Calatrava offers a complete festive experience in a rural setting, with rural accommodations in the area and local gastronomy that includes dishes such as pisto manchego or migas. A different option for those seeking tradition and a summer atmosphere without leaving Spain.
Future projects
Beyond the festivities, Triguero has reviewed the legislative term. The new sports pavilion Eusebio Angulo is the most important project of the mandate and the largest municipal investment in the town's history. The mayor has reminded that Pozuelo, with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, is directly executing a project of this magnitude, which is uncommon in rural municipalities in the region.
Other ongoing projects include the renovation of the multipurpose room, the new senior residence with places allocated by the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, and the air conditioning of the José María de la Fuente School. In terms of work-life balance, the municipality offers a nursery, free morning classes, Plan Corresponsables, summer school, campus, sports schools, Popular University, music school, and language school.
The Astra programme, which connects Pozuelo with Ciudad Real, offers 12 daily round trips, with plans to increase to 14 by 2027. For those from Madrid wishing to visit the town without a car, they can take the AVE train to Ciudad Real and from there take the Astra bus, which facilitates access to the municipality.
The Fairs and Festivals of Pozuelo de Calatrava present themselves as a summer event for the whole family, with activities ranging from music to bullfighting tradition, in an open and welcoming atmosphere. Those who decide to travel from Madrid will find a varied programme and the opportunity to discover a charming Manchego village.
