The Valdeluz residence in Tres Cantos houses 46 evacuated individuals, most with high dependency, from Rozas de Puerto Real and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, affected by the wildfires.
The mayor of Tres Cantos, Jesús Moreno, visited the Valdeluz Residence this morning to support the 46 evacuated residents from the municipalities of Rozas de Puerto Real and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, affected by the wildfires that are still active in the Sierra Oeste of the Community of Madrid.
Moreno, accompanied by the first deputy mayor and councillor for Security, Javier Juárez, toured the facilities of the centre, where Jaime González, executive president of the Arpada Group, and Conchita García, general director of Valdeluz Mayores, were also present. During the visit, the mayor personally conveyed the support and solidarity of all the residents of Tres Cantos to those affected.
Of the 46 individuals accommodated, 43 come from the Real Residence of Rozas, in Rozas de Puerto Real, and the remaining three have been transferred from San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Many of them have high dependency and require ongoing medical care, according to the City Council.
The mayor thanked the staff of the centre for their efforts, which allowed for a swift and optimal reception. “In times like this, the true value of solidarity between municipalities, public services, and the collaboration of private initiative centres like this one is demonstrated, to continue providing support and care in extremely difficult moments,” Moreno stated.
Javier Juárez highlighted “the extraordinary coordination between administrations, emergency services, and socio-health centres to respond quickly to a situation of enormous complexity.” He also acknowledged “the commitment and professionalism of all the personnel who continue to work tirelessly to protect the population and contain the spread of the fire.”
The City Council of Tres Cantos has made all necessary technical and material resources available to the Community of Madrid to address the disaster. This includes local police, civil protection, and logistical support, as confirmed by the mayor.
The wildfires in the Sierra Oeste have forced the evacuation of several towns and remain active. Emergency services are working tirelessly to extinguish them, while the affected municipalities receive support from neighbouring towns like Tres Cantos.
The Valdeluz residence, managed by the Arpada Group, has become a temporary shelter for these vulnerable individuals. The City Council has emphasised the importance of inter-municipal solidarity in crisis situations.
Family members of the evacuees have been able to visit the residents and have expressed their gratitude for the care received. The mayor has assured that the City Council will continue to provide support as long as necessary.
The Community of Madrid has activated all available resources to combat the fires, which have affected several hectares of forest land. Authorities recommend that the public stay informed and follow the instructions of emergency services.
So far, no serious personal injuries have been reported, although material and environmental losses are yet to be quantified. The City Council of Tres Cantos has reiterated its commitment to those affected and has made additional resources available if necessary.
