The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has presented a recovery plan that will address 13 regional roads damaged by fire in municipalities in the southwest of the region.
The Community of Madrid will launch a recovery and rehabilitation plan for roads affected by wildfires, as announced by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The initiative includes actions on over 100 kilometres of the regional road network that have suffered damage due to fire, aiming to restore the safety and functionality of the roads as soon as possible.
In total, the Madrid government will intervene in 13 roads under its jurisdiction. The roads included in the plan are the M-501, M-507, M-510, M-512, M-521, M-531, M-533, M-537, M-539, M-540, M-541, and M-855, which run through the municipalities of Aldea del Fresno, Villa del Prado, Navas del Rey, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Pelayos de la Presa, Robledo de Chavela, Santa María de la Alameda, Colmenar del Arroyo, Valdemaqueda, Peralejo, Fresnedillas de la Oliva, Valdemorillo, and Chapinería.
The actions will be carried out once the emergency work is completed and as long as the situation allows access for specialised teams. The work will include the replacement and renewal of vertical signage, the recovery of road markings and painting, as well as the rehabilitation of the road surface and resurfacing. Elements of marking and containment systems, such as protective barriers and guardrails, that may have been affected by high temperatures or by the fire itself will also be replaced.
The plan also includes cleaning and removal of debris, the review of margins and ditches, and the repair of road infrastructure elements damaged by fire, heat, or smoke. Technicians will also assess the possible damage caused by the intense traffic of emergency vehicles and heavy machinery during firefighting efforts, in order to restore the roads to their previous state and ensure their full safety.
The work will be carried out progressively, prioritising sections based on the recorded damage and safety needs. To this end, the General Directorate of Roads, through its conservation teams, will conduct a technical evaluation of each road to establish the order of intervention.
With this plan, the regional government is advancing in the recovery of areas affected by wildfires after the most immediate phase of the emergency. The goal is to restore mobility, enhance road safety, and return the regional road network to the best circulation conditions for drivers in the Community of Madrid.
Residents of the affected municipalities, such as Aldea del Fresno or Villa del Prado, will see improved safety in their travels once the works are completed. The interventions are expected to begin in the coming weeks, once teams can safely access the areas.
