The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, has indicated that the main concern regarding the evolution of the fire is to control the western flank and prevent it from advancing northward. Over 35,000 people remain evacuated and 20,000 confined.

The forest fire affecting the Sierra Oeste of Madrid keeps authorities on edge, who are focusing their efforts on containing the western flank of the fire and preventing it from spreading northward. This was stated on Sunday by the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, after a meeting at the advanced command post in Navalcarnero.

Martín explained that the eastern flank of the fire is contained and not advancing, but in the west, firefighting teams continue to work to halt the flames. During the night, an "extraordinary job" was done to protect municipalities such as Cadalso de los Vidrios and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, he highlighted.

The central area of the fire, located north of the San Juan reservoir, is also of particular concern. Authorities fear that wind variations in the coming hours could cause reactivations that complicate the situation north of the reservoir.

Weather forecasts for this Sunday and Monday are favourable, which, according to Martín, provides a "broad window to work and ultimately overcome this fire." However, caution dictates the decision-making regarding evacuations and confinements.

In the Community of Madrid, over 35,000 people remain evacuated and more than 20,000 are confined in their homes. Nearly 3,000 people are staying in reception points set up in other municipalities in the region.

Martín has assured that each decision regarding the lifting of restrictions will prioritise the safety of residents. Only when technical criteria guarantee safety conditions will the evacuation and confinement orders be modified.

The fire affecting the Sierra Oeste has mobilised numerous resources from the Community of Madrid, as well as state assets. Delegates from the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León also participated in the command post meeting to coordinate a joint response to the fires affecting the three communities.

Residents of the affected areas are awaiting news on the evolution of the fire. Authorities recommend maintaining calm and following the instructions of emergency services.
