The regional government has authorised an investment of €6.1 million to rehabilitate two public buildings in Tres Cantos and Fuenlabrada, which will join the network of Madrid Innovation and Employment Training Centres (CMICE).
The Community of Madrid will have two new training centres specialised in high-demand labour sectors. The Governing Council authorised this Wednesday an investment of €6.1 million to rehabilitate two public buildings in Tres Cantos and Fuenlabrada, which will become part of the network of Madrid Innovation and Employment Training Centres (CMICE).
The works, which will be carried out between this year and 2027, will expand the centres in this network from five to seven, all aimed at improving professional qualifications and the employment integration of Madrid residents, with particular attention to unemployed individuals. The funding is provided by the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment.
In Tres Cantos, the building located in Plaza Central will be rehabilitated with a budget of €3.4 million. The new CMICE will specialise in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, two strategic areas due to their growth and importance for the economy and the healthcare system. The intervention includes demolition and space redistribution work, as well as the rehabilitation of lighting, plumbing, ventilation, and air conditioning facilities.
Meanwhile, in Fuenlabrada, the building at Cerro de la Cantueña will be transformed into a centre specialised in logistics, transport, and drones, with an investment of €2.7 million allocated for the comprehensive adaptation of the building.
The CMICE network already has five operational centres, each specialised in a different professional family. In Getafe, there is the Information and Communication Technologies centre; in Leganés, the Electricity, Electronics and Aeronautics centre; in Fuencarral-El Pardo (Madrid capital), the Administration, Insurance and Finance centre; in Paracuellos de Jarama, the Building and Civil Works centre; and in Moratalaz (Madrid capital), the Cold Technologies and Air Conditioning centre.
These centres provide training in experimentation and innovation and also train vocational education teachers, aiming to align the training offer with the needs of the Madrid labour market.
The expansion of the network responds to the growing demand for qualified profiles in sectors such as pharmacy, biotechnology, and logistics, which are experiencing a high hiring rate in the region. With the two new centres, the Community of Madrid aims to reinforce the employability of citizens and reduce structural unemployment.
The residents of Tres Cantos and Fuenlabrada will be the first beneficiaries, as the centres will be integrated into their respective municipalities, facilitating access to training without the need for long commutes. Furthermore, the specialisation in cutting-edge sectors opens up job opportunities in local companies and throughout the Madrid industrial corridor.
The works are expected to begin in the coming months and will last until 2027. Once completed, the centres will start their training activities, with places to be announced through the official channels of the Community of Madrid and the municipalities themselves.
