The municipalities of Tres Cantos, Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes have made available to the Community of Madrid human resources, municipal spaces and logistical support to tackle the wildfires affecting the region.
The collaboration of the municipalities in the northern metropolitan area has been activated following the declaration of a national emergency due to the wildfires in Villa del Prado and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, which have forced the evacuation of thousands of people and keep the entire Community of Madrid on edge. The three councils have responded to the request from the Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency and the Advanced Command Post, offering their resources to reinforce the INFOMA Plan.
The Tres Cantos City Council was the first to communicate its availability. Among the resources offered are Local Police personnel, Civil Protection volunteers, municipal spaces for possible emergency accommodation, and logistical support for firefighting tasks or assistance to affected individuals. The council has reported that it is maintaining constant monitoring of environmental indices in the municipality and will communicate to the public, through its official channels, any information related to air quality, as well as health or preventive recommendations arising from the possible presence of smoke or odours from the fires. The council has conveyed a message of recognition to the professionals participating in the operation.
For its part, the Alcobendas City Council has made municipal facilities available to accommodate evacuated individuals. The sports halls of the José Caballero Municipal Sports Centre, including the Amaya Valdemoro hall, as well as hall B and another climate-controlled sports facility, will remain closed to the public to provide shelter for those who have had to leave their homes. Together, these spaces have an approximate capacity for 400 people. The council has also made available two vehicles to support the operation: a van for evacuation purposes and an all-terrain Civil Protection vehicle.
The Local Police and Civil Protection of Alcobendas have called on the public to take extreme preventive measures while the high risk of wildfires persists. Recommendations include avoiding throwing cigarette butts, not using items that could start fires in forested areas, not lighting bonfires or barbecues, removing all waste generated during visits to the countryside, and immediately reporting any fire or column of smoke to 112, providing the exact location and following the instructions of emergency services. It is also recommended to stay informed only through official channels and to avoid travelling to affected areas to not hinder the work of firefighting teams.
San Sebastián de los Reyes has also communicated that it has offered the Community of Madrid the personal and material resources at its disposal, whose incorporation into the operation will depend on the needs determined by the Advanced Command Post. The council has also expressed its recognition to all the professionals working to control the fires and has shown its solidarity with the municipalities affected by this emergency, emphasising that the municipality shares the concern over a situation that affects the entire region.
The national emergency declared by the Government of Spain has put firefighting services and local administrations on high alert. The wildfires in Villa del Prado and San Martín de Valdeiglesias have forced the evacuation of thousands of people, and the collaboration of the municipalities in the northern metropolitan area adds to that of other councils in the region that have already offered their resources.
