The San Sebastián de los Reyes City Council and RTVE renew their collaboration to give international visibility to the literary award, which will celebrate its XXXVII edition in 2026.

The San Sebastián de los Reyes City Council and the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE) have renewed their alliance to boost the dissemination of the José Hierro International Poetry Prize, one of the most prestigious literary competitions in the Spanish language. The new agreement, approved by both institutions, will strengthen the promotion of the 2026 edition and future calls during its validity.

The agreement stipulates that RTVE will broadcast activities related to the prize on its television, radio, and digital platforms, always under criteria of informational interest and programming. Additionally, the public corporation will be represented on the jury by a figure with a recognised career in the world of poetry.

The coverage of the competition and the winning work will take place in emblematic cultural spaces of RTVE such as ‘Página 2’, ‘Un país para leerlo’, ‘El ojo crítico’ or ‘Estación Azul’. The institutional presence of a representative from RTVE will also be guaranteed at the official award ceremony.

The agreement will have an initial duration of four years, extendable for another four, and will not incur any economic cost for either party: each institution will bear the expenses arising from its own commitments.

The José Hierro International Poetry Prize, organised by the San Sebastián de los Reyes City Council, will celebrate its XXXVII edition in 2026. The competition, which pays tribute to the poet José Hierro, maintains a prize fund of €9,000 for the winner, as well as the publication of the awarded poetry collection.

With this agreement, the Madrid municipality aims to bring poetry to a wider audience and consolidate the cultural projection of San Sebastián de los Reyes. RTVE's support will allow the winning work to achieve unprecedented national and international dissemination.

The call for the next edition will open in the coming months, and the guidelines will be published on the City Council's electronic headquarters. Interested parties will be able to submit their originals until the deadline, which will be announced in due course.
