The Alcalá de Henares City Council has begun the renovation works on the central access staircase to the Fairgrounds from Ronda del Henares. The work, which will last between two and three weeks, aims to eliminate slips and falls caused by the deteriorated wooden pavement.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council has initiated the renovation of the staircase that provides access to the Fairgrounds from Ronda del Henares. The works, which started this week, will require this pedestrian passage to remain closed for an estimated period of two to three weeks, according to the City Council.
The intervention, driven by the Department of Works and Urban Maintenance, involves an investment of around €10,000 and responds to the advanced deterioration of the current wooden pavement. As explained by Councillor Antonio Saldaña, the material was “largely rotted” due to the passage of time and humidity, and despite repairs in recent years, it had caused “various falls” among pedestrians.
In place of the wood, a new structure with concrete curbs will be installed, a more solid, resistant, and durable material. The project also includes the installation of handrails on both sides of the staircase, aimed at facilitating transit for people with reduced mobility and the elderly.
The ongoing works are expected to be completed before the start of the Alcalá Fairs and Festivals, ensuring that the central access to the venue will be operational for the celebrations. During the construction period, pedestrians will need to use alternative accesses to the fairgrounds.
The replacement of the pavement has been a recurring community demand, as the staircase is one of the most used entry points during the events hosted at the venue. With this action, the City Council aims to ensure adequate safety conditions before the arrival of the patron festivities.
