AEMET has issued a yellow alert for maximum temperatures this Saturday in the metropolitan area and the Henares Corridor, with forecasts of 38 degrees in central Madrid and municipalities like Las Rozas or Brunete.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow alert for maximum temperatures this Saturday in the metropolitan area of Madrid and the Henares Corridor. The mercury will reach 38 degrees in the capital and in towns like Las Rozas de Madrid or Brunete, according to the official forecast.
The day will start with clear skies from dawn until noon, evolving into a mostly clear outlook during the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will be recorded around 5:00 PM, while minimums will hover around 23 degrees, with a maximum thermal sensation of 37 degrees.
The municipalities most affected by the heat
In Las Rozas de Madrid, the day will begin with clear skies until noon, and then a mostly clear outlook will prevail. Thermometers will fluctuate between a minimum of 20 degrees and a maximum of 38 degrees. In Brunete, the situation will be similar: clear skies until 12:00 PM and then mostly clear, with temperatures between 22 and 38 degrees.
In the Henares Corridor, municipalities such as Alcalá de Henares, Torrejón de Ardoz, or Coslada will also be under the yellow alert. AEMET recommends taking extra precautions, especially during the central hours of the day, and staying hydrated.
Sunday and Monday: a relative respite
On Sunday, cloud cover will be more variable: cloudy intervals from dawn until noon, with a tendency for fewer clouds in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will drop to 35 degrees in Madrid, while minimums will remain around 22 degrees. The maximum thermal sensation will be 34 degrees.
On Monday, relief will be more noticeable: skies will be mostly clear throughout the day, with temperatures dropping to a minimum of 20 degrees and a maximum of 32 degrees. The wind will blow lightly from the southwest, with little impact.
Practical advice for Madrid residents
For residents in the capital and municipalities in the metropolitan area, the yellow alert means that high temperatures can pose a health risk, especially for the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses. It is advised to avoid going outside between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, wear light clothing, and drink water frequently. Local councils will keep day centres and libraries open as climate shelters.
The forecast for the rest of the week indicates a stabilization with gradually decreasing temperatures, although no precipitation is in sight. AEMET will update alerts based on the evolution of the weather.
