The State Meteorological Agency activates this Tuesday the yellow warning for high temperatures in the Community of Madrid, with maximums reaching 38 degrees in the capital and up to 39 in Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the yellow warning for heat across the Community of Madrid this Tuesday, with maximum temperatures expected to be around 38 degrees in the capital and parts of the south and east. The warning will be in effect from 13:00 to 21:00, according to the agency's forecast.
After a weekend of milder temperatures, the thermometer is set to rise again in the region. The highest temperatures are expected in Alcalá de Henares and Aranjuez, where 39 degrees will be reached, while in Madrid capital and Navalcarnero, the mercury will hit 38. In Getafe, the forecast is 37 degrees, and in Collado Villalba, 35.
The minimum temperatures will also rise, although less significantly. In Aranjuez, a minimum of 18 degrees is expected, and in Alcalá de Henares, 19. Across the region, the minimum temperature will be around 22 degrees.
The yellow warning extends to all areas: Sierra, metropolitan area, Henares Corridor, South, Vegas, and West. The sky will be clear throughout the day, which will favour the rise in temperatures.
The maximum ultraviolet index will again be at 9, considered very high, in a July that is proving to be the warmest on record, tied with 2022. The feeling of mugginess will be noticeable, especially during the central hours of the day.
The wind, a key factor in the evolution of wildfires, will be light and variable, predominantly from the south with an average speed of 10 km/h. This could help prevent the risk of fires from escalating in the Community of Madrid, although Aemet maintains very high levels in the east and in municipalities such as Navalcarnero, Brunete, Robledo de Chavela, El Escorial, and Colmenar Viejo.
In the capital, the fire risk is very low, while in the north, on the border with Segovia, the danger reaches red level. The focus in Guadalajara is also concerning, keeping the entire eastern side of the region on alert.
Authorities recommend taking extreme precautions against the heat: hydrate frequently, avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, and pay special attention to the elderly and children. They also remind that making fires in the mountains is prohibited and that any cigarette butt or spark can trigger a fire.
This Tuesday will be a precursor to a relentless summer. Temperatures will continue to rise over the coming days, with highs potentially exceeding 36 degrees in the centre and south of the Community, and 34 in the lower areas of the Sierra.
