Madrid City Council activates a special street cleaning operation for San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and La Paloma. Over 400 workers and 166 mechanical means will ensure cleanliness in the Embajadores and La Latina districts.
Madrid City Council has prepared a special cleaning operation to address the crowds during the August festivities. Between August 4 and 17, more than 400 street cleaning workers and the Urgent Cleaning Service (Selur) will work in the Embajadores and La Latina districts, supported by 166 mechanical means.
The operation will be deployed in stages to cover the three festive events: San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and the Virgin of La Paloma. Each celebration will have a specific plan for resources and personnel, tailored to the areas of highest attendance.
The first to arrive will be the San Cayetano festivities, with a focus on the Plaza de Cascorro, Plaza del General Vara del Rey, Embajadores and Ribera de Curtidores. For these days, 48 mechanical means and 110 workers have been allocated, along with 40 litter bins, 7 portable toilets (2 adapted) and 75 containers of 800 litres.
From August 8 to 11, the focus will shift to the San Lorenzo festivities, with work in Plaza de Arturo Barea, Calle Argumosa, Plaza de la Corrala, Plaza de Nelson Mandela and Plaza de Lavapiés. On this occasion, 45 mechanical means and 122 workers will be mobilised, along with 70 litter bins, 8 portable toilets (2 adapted) and 64 containers of 800 litres.
The largest deployment will occur with the Virgin of La Paloma, from August 13 to 17, when the operation will extend to Las Vistillas, Plaza de la Paja, Plaza de los Carros, Plaza de la Cebada, Plaza de Puerta de Moros, Calle Calatrava, Gran Vía de San Francisco and Plaza de la Paloma. For these days, 73 mechanical means and 193 workers have been reserved, with 63 litter bins, 8 portable toilets (2 accessible) and 100 containers of 800 litres.
The operation aims to minimise the impact of the festivities on the daily lives of residents, ensuring that the streets are left in optimal condition after each festive day. The work will intensify during the night and in the hours following peak attendance.
The City Council reminds that, in addition to street cleaning, additional litter bins and containers have been planned at strategic points for each celebration. Residents attending the festivities will also find portable toilets, including units adapted for people with reduced mobility.
