Unemployment in Torrejón de Ardoz has decreased by 141 people during June, bringing the unemployment rate to 6.09%, the lowest for a June in 18 years.
Torrejón de Ardoz has closed June 2026 with 6,042 unemployed people, the lowest figure for this month in the last 18 years. The decrease of 141 unemployed compared to the previous month places the unemployment rate at 6.09%, according to data provided by the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council.
The number of unemployed has been reduced to more than half since 2013, when in June of that year there were 13,700 people unemployed. This improvement has occurred despite the active population of the city increasing by 7,510 people, reaching 99,130 active individuals.
The mayor takes on employment responsibilities
The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro, has highlighted that he has directly taken on the responsibilities of Economic Development and Employment, considering this area a priority for his government. “As mayor, I decided to directly take on the responsibilities of Economic Development and Employment, as these are one of the main priorities of my government,” he stated.
“One of my commitments is to promote the creation of more and better jobs for the people of Torrejón, enhancing the magnificent new industrial estates, creating quality jobs and adding value that reinforces the brand Torrejón Ciudad de Moda, propelling us as a territory attractive for investment and job generation,” Alejandro Navarro recalled.
The mayor was previously the councillor for Employment in the last term, during which the number of unemployed was reduced to more than half and the unemployment rate compared to 2013. Now, with the new data for June, the lowest figure in the last 17 years for a June is reached, according to the city council.
Industrial estates and city branding
The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council links this positive employment evolution to the enhancement of the industrial estates in the municipality, such as the Las Fronteras Industrial Estate and the La Carpetania Business Park. The municipal strategy focuses on attracting investment from companies that generate quality jobs and reinforce the brand 'Torrejón Ciudad de Moda', an initiative aimed at positioning the locality as an economic attraction hub.
For the residents of Torrejón de Ardoz, this data represents an improvement in job prospects. The reduction in unemployment implies that more than 7,600 people have found jobs since the peak in 2013, which has a direct impact on the local economy and consumption in shops and services in the municipality.
The context of the Community of Madrid is also favourable: the region maintains an unemployment rate below the national average, although Torrejón de Ardoz is at particularly low levels. Across Spain, unemployment in June stood at 11.2%, nearly five points above the rate in Torrejón.
The June data confirms a sustained trend of declining unemployment in the municipality, which has accumulated several consecutive months of reduction. The City Council expects this trend to continue in the coming months, driven by the new summer hiring campaign and the activity of the industrial estates.
For citizens interested in job offers, the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has a municipal job bank and a job orientation service at the Employment and Development Centre, where information is provided about training courses and selection processes for local companies.
