The Alcalá de Henares City Council will allocate over €211,000 to repair Josep Pla Street and its surroundings in Ciudad 10, an action included in the 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods' plan.

The Alcalá de Henares City Council has approved the rehabilitation project for Josep Pla Street and its surroundings in the Ciudad 10 neighbourhood. The Local Government Board has greenlit an investment of €211,000 that will be executed as part of the 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods' plan.

This action addresses the deterioration accumulated over time and the growth of tree roots, which have caused uplift in sidewalks and roads. These damages hinder pedestrian traffic and reduce the safety of residents and visitors, as noted by the Councillor for Urban Works and Maintenance, Antonio Saldaña.

Saldaña explained that the work responds to a community demand and that "we continue to advance in our commitment to improve all the neighbourhoods of Alcalá." The councillor insisted that it is not just about resurfacing, but about "transforming this environment to make it more accessible, safe, comfortable, and sustainable."

The works include a complete renewal of the road pavement and the repair of areas affected by the roots. On the left side, the pedestrian pathway will be completely reconstructed to address the pavement uplift, while on the right side, the pedestrian crossings and routes will be adapted to make them fully accessible.

Additionally, accessibility features for people with reduced mobility and visual impairments will be installed. The manhole covers and drains will also be adjusted to integrate them into the new pavements.

This intervention is part of the municipal plan 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods', which aims to modernise the public spaces of the city. With this work, the council aims to eliminate accessibility issues in an area that has needed a comprehensive intervention for years.

The works will be carried out in the coming weeks, although the City Council has not specified the exact start date or the duration of the works. Residents of Ciudad 10 will see a renewed environment that has one of the highest levels of deterioration in the neighbourhood.
