The world boxing champion and councillor for Sports and Tourism of Torrejón de Ardoz, Miriam Gutiérrez, shared her experience with the players of Atlético de Madrid's first women's team during their pre-season.
The world boxing champion and councillor for Sports and Tourism of Torrejón de Ardoz, Miriam Gutiérrez, delivered a talk on values, emotional intelligence, and mental health to the players and coaching staff of Atlético de Madrid's first women's team. The conference took place during the pre-season of the red-and-white team, aiming to equip the footballers with mental tools to face the challenges of the upcoming season.
During the meeting, Gutiérrez reviewed her journey as an elite athlete and the barriers she had to overcome to become world champion. She also addressed how to emotionally manage the various situations that may arise throughout a professional career, in a context where pressure and public exposure are constant.
The founder of the citizen platform Nos Gusta Torrejón also wanted to highlight the importance of mental health in competitive sports. "Mental health is becoming increasingly important in all aspects of our lives, but in professional competitive sports, it reaches a higher level due to the pressure surrounding the athlete, including social media, which can be very negative emotionally," she noted.
This initiative is part of the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council's commitment to bring sports role models to the city and promote values such as effort and overcoming challenges. In addition to her institutional work, Gutiérrez maintains a close connection with grassroots sports and women's sports in the region.
"I hope my experience has been helpful, and I wish the Atlético de Madrid players the best of luck this season," concluded the councillor, who took the opportunity to wish the team success in the new campaign.
The talk is part of the Madrid team's preparation, which is finalising their readiness for the start of the league. For the players, having the testimony of an athlete who has reached the world peak provides an extra boost towards their set objectives.
