The Arganda del Rey City Council has begun the rehabilitation works of the retaining wall of CEIP Federico García Lorca, in La Poveda. The structure, at risk of collapse, will be replaced by a new one before the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The Arganda del Rey City Council has launched the rehabilitation of the retaining wall of CEIP Federico García Lorca, in La Poveda, an action that responds to the demands of the educational community. The works, which have already begun, include the demolition of the old structure, which posed a serious risk of collapse in the teachers' parking area.
The investment amounts to €47,474.91 and the execution period is four weeks, as reported by the City Council. During this time, workers will carry out the foundation and consolidation of the new wall to ensure a completely safe structure for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.
This work is part of the maintenance plan for public schools that the City Council is carrying out during the summer, taking advantage of the period without academic activity. The aim is for students in Arganda to return to school in optimal conditions.
The intervention at CEIP Federico García Lorca is one of several being carried out in the educational centres of the municipality. Last July, the City Council also completely repaired the park of the Ciudad Deportiva Príncipe Felipe pavilion, as part of the same improvement programme.
With this intervention, the City Council addresses a long-standing demand from the educational community of La Poveda, which had alerted about the deterioration of the wall. The new structure will ensure the safety of both teachers and families using the centre's parking area.
The forecast is that the works will be completed before the start of the 2026/2027 school year, so the work will take place over the coming weeks without interfering with academic activities.
