The Arganda del Rey Town Hall will distribute over 1,500 approved and free glasses to safely observe the partial solar eclipse next Wednesday, August 12.
Arganda del Rey is preparing to experience an exceptional astronomical phenomenon: next Wednesday, August 12, the moon will partially cover the sun for more than a minute, an eclipse not seen in the peninsula for over a century and which will be visible in the municipality and in more than 31 Spanish provinces.
To ensure that no one misses out on enjoying it safely, the Arganda Town Hall has announced the distribution of more than 1,500 approved glasses, capable of blocking solar radiation and allowing direct observation without risk to eyesight.
The glasses will be distributed for free and a maximum of two units per person, until stocks run out. Collection will begin this Saturday, August 8, from 10:00 AM at two points in the municipality: the reception of the Príncipe Felipe Sports City and the Virgen del Carmen Sports Centre in La Poveda.
The initiative aims to facilitate residents' ability to follow the eclipse with all guarantees, as looking directly at the sun without protection can cause irreversible eye damage. The distributed glasses comply with safety regulations for such observations.
The eclipse will be partially visible in Arganda del Rey, so it is recommended to arrive at the distribution points early to ensure obtaining the glasses. Those who cannot collect them will be able to follow the phenomenon through live broadcasts or by using indirect projection methods.
