The mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz, has met with the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri, to strengthen collaboration in innovation, tourism and smart cities.
The Las Rozas City Council has taken a further step in its international projection strategy by consolidating a cooperation agreement with the Mexican state of Querétaro. The mayor, José de la Uz, travelled to the capital of Querétaro to meet with Governor Mauricio Kuri González, in a meeting aimed at enhancing the exchange of best practices in innovation, economic development and governance.
The meeting, held at the Government Palace of Querétaro, focused on presenting the innovation ecosystem of the Mexican region and exploring collaboration opportunities. Both administrations agreed on the importance of promoting technological innovation and attracting talent and investment, areas in which Las Rozas has received various awards.
A Link Born from Wake Up, Spain 2026
The origin of this approach is situated within the framework of Wake Up, Spain 2026, a Hispano-Mexican cooperation forum where both parties expressed their interest in sharing strengths. During the event, the mayor of Las Rozas, who also chairs Las Rozas Innova and the Spanish Network of Smart Cities, highlighted the commonalities that make both regions two parallel development hubs.
Kuri González, for his part, emphasised the historical and economic ties that unite both regions, noting that over 200 Spanish capital companies are established in Querétaro. The governor also acknowledged the progress of the aerospace sector in the state and its commitment to the rule of law and job creation.
Work Agenda and Next Steps
The Las Rozas delegation, led by José de la Uz, has a schedule of meetings with state and municipal departments, as well as tours of strategic projects. The aim is to identify areas of cooperation in innovation, smart cities, tourism and digital transformation. In this regard, the Smart Destination Platform (PID) was put on the table, a tool designed to enhance the experience of visitors and residents by optimising tourism, local commerce and public services with centralised information.
The Las Rozas delegation includes the general director of the Digital Office of the City Council, Virginia Moreno Bonilla, and the technical coordinator, Amparo Troncoso Rubín. From Querétaro, the Secretary of Tourism, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, and the coordinator of International Relations and Government Innovation, Erika Patricia González Maciel, attended.
For the residents of Las Rozas, this agreement represents an opportunity for the municipality to continue positioning itself as a reference in innovation at an international level. Collaboration with Querétaro could translate into concrete projects that improve the quality of life for the residents of Las Rozas, such as the implementation of smart city solutions or the exchange of experiences in the digitalisation of public services.
Mayor José de la Uz has emphasised that these types of alliances strengthen the Las Rozas brand as a hub for attracting companies and talent, which in the long term benefits the local economy and job creation. The delegation will continue its agenda in Mexico over the coming days, with plans to sign a memorandum of understanding that will specify the lines of work.
