The Las Rozas City Council has completed the installation of 3,000 photovoltaic panels in 30 municipal buildings, generating 2.4 GWh per year, equivalent to the consumption of 700 homes. The project, carried out by Las Rozas Innova, has been developed in two phases since 2023.
The Las Rozas City Council has completed the installation of 3,000 photovoltaic panels in 30 municipal buildings, a project that generates 2.4 gigawatt hours per year, enough to supply 700 homes. The initiative, executed by the municipal company Las Rozas Innova, has been developed in two phases since the summer of 2023.
Two phases to cover all public buildings
In the first phase, which began in the summer of 2023, 1,800 panels were installed in 11 public schools and four sports centres. The second phase, recently completed, has added 1,200 panels in another 15 facilities, including the Town Hall, the Municipal Centre El Abajón, senior centres, the Local Police headquarters, the Joaquín Rodrigo Auditorium, and several libraries.
The mayor, José de la Uz, visited the installation at the León Tolstoi Library alongside the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Community of Madrid, Rafael García. "With the completion of this project, we continue to move towards our goal of making Las Rozas an efficient, innovative, and sustainable city," declared the mayor.
"Thanks to Las Rozas Innova, we are generating clean energy, reducing costs, and improving services for residents"
30% savings on municipal energy bills
The municipal buildings are already recording an average savings of 30% on their energy expenditure, thanks to an investment of nearly 2 million euros over the last three years. Additionally, the plan will prevent the emission of 600 tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to the absorption of 30,000 trees.
For residents, this translates into a more efficient use of public resources and a reduction in the municipal carbon footprint, which has already fallen by 67% thanks to the overall actions of the 'Las Rozas Zero Objective 2030' plan.
Real-time smart monitoring
A key aspect of the project is the integration of all data into the Las Rozas Smart City Platform. This allows Las Rozas Innova to monitor in real-time the energy production and consumption of each building, facilitating audits and the detection of new savings opportunities.
The energy efficiency plan also includes the modernization of public lighting and the lighting of sports facilities, as well as the monitoring of water, gas, and electricity consumption. The goal is for total savings to reach 2 million euros annually for municipal finances by 2026.
Las Rozas thus ranks among the leading municipalities in Spain to achieve comprehensive solar coverage of its public infrastructures, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.
