The City Council of Collado Villalba will celebrate the first Cybersecurity and AI Conference on September 2, featuring four debate panels, a documentary, and the signing of the VillalbIA Declaration.
The Peñalba Cultural Centre in Collado Villalba will host the inaugural edition of VillalbIA on September 2, a conference on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence in local administration aimed at becoming an annual reference in Spanish municipalism.
The event, driven by the Councillor for Digitalisation and New Technologies, Miguel Aisa, will bring together political representatives, municipal technicians, and companies from the sector from 13:30 to 18:00 to discuss the impact of AI on public services and the rise of cyberattacks on local governments.
“Cyberattacks on local governments have alarmingly increased, and artificial intelligence is changing the profile of threats. Municipalities cannot fall behind. VillalbIA is our response: to bring the best to Collado Villalba to learn together and commit together,” Aisa has stated.
The Mayor, Mariola Vargas, who will preside over the opening and closing, emphasised that AI is already present in local councils and that the question is not whether it will arrive, but whether it will be used properly and how to protect against those who use it against them.
A programme in five blocks
The conference will kick off with the official inauguration and will continue with the first debate panel on AI policies in local governments. At 14:30, there will be a networking break with demonstrations of AI tools applied to municipal management.
The second panel will gather ICT technicians from various local administrations to discuss the real challenges of implementing AI with limited resources, while the third will feature cybersecurity companies specialised in the public sector. At 17:00, the ten-minute documentary Mythos — The AI that Triggered Cybersecurity Alarms will be screened, followed by the final panel on the future of AI in municipalities.
The event will conclude at 18:00 with the signing of the VillalbIA Declaration and a group photo. Attendance is free and open to residents of Collado Villalba and the entire Sierra de Guadarrama.
