The Aragonese capital will deploy a special setup on Friday, July 10, as the World Cup quarter-final match coincides with Aitana's concert at the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe.

Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza will become the epicentre of Spanish football fervour next Friday, July 10. The City Council has decided to install an outdoor giant screen to broadcast the World Cup 2026 quarter-final match between the Spanish National Team and Belgium, after the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe, where the viewing was initially planned, is occupied by Aitana's concert.

A scheduling conflict that forces improvisation

The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, confirmed through her social media that the council has been forced to seek an alternative after realising the impossibility of using the pavilion. The venue, which successfully hosted the broadcast of the round of 16 match against Portugal, was already booked for Aitana's show, which will start at 21:30 hours. The match against Belgium will kick off at 21:00 hours, creating a difficult logistical dilemma.

According to municipal sources, several options were considered, such as moving the concert earlier or delaying it to 23:00 hours, but both were dismissed. Bringing the performance forward would have disadvantaged fans with work commitments, while delaying it conflicted with the uncertainty of a possible extra time or penalty shootout, which would have compromised the production of the show. Aitana herself explained on her X account that it was unfeasible to change the schedule due to technical reasons.

A massive deployment in the heart of the city

To ensure the 'red tide' does not lose momentum, the City Council has designed a special operation in Plaza del Pilar. A state-of-the-art giant screen will be installed, and services will be reinforced, with additional portable toilets and a coordinated security device to manage the massive influx around the basilica. The entertainment will be provided by DJ Castas and the 'speaker' David Aso, who will warm up the atmosphere hours before the kick-off.

For the residents of Zaragoza, Friday will be an exercise in balancing two passions: football and music. While the sounds of Aitana's tour resonate in the pavilion, Plaza del Pilar will be the thermometer of the excitement of fans dreaming of seeing Spain back at the top of world football. The City Council recommends arriving early to avoid crowds and to follow the emergency services' instructions.

A precedent that sets the path

This is not the first time Zaragoza has rallied behind the National Team for a major event. During the last World Cup, the broadcast at the Príncipe Felipe gathered thousands of people, encouraging the council to repeat the experience. However, the clash with Aitana's concert has forced quick thinking. The decision to move the event to Plaza del Pilar, an open and emblematic space, aims to ensure that no one misses the chance to cheer for La Roja.

The municipal setup will be tested under the gaze of the entire country, on a day that promises to be historic for the Aragonese capital. The combination of football and pop music, far from being a problem, could turn Friday into an unprecedented celebration. Zaragoza residents will have the opportunity to choose between the stadium or the stage, or even experience both if organised well.

For those opting for Plaza del Pilar, the City Council reminds that access will be free and recommends arriving on time. The broadcast will start at 20:45 hours with the pre-match coverage, and Aitana's concert will begin promptly at 21:30 in the pavilion. One thing is certain: on Friday, July 10, Zaragoza will be the centre of Spain's football and music universe.
