The regional government is holding meetings with the mayors of the 17 affected towns and ensures water, electricity, and food. Additionally, it will launch a reconstruction plan with nearly 50 actions.
The Community of Madrid has activated a device to guarantee essential services in the 17 towns of the Sierra Oeste affected by the wildfires. The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, has been in constant contact with the mayors of the area since the emergency began.
According to the minister's communication with the mayors, the regional government is in direct contact with the supplying companies to ensure the supply of water, electricity, and food, as well as medicines. The priority is to ensure that healthcare centres, emergency services, and residences for the elderly or disabled continue to operate normally.
The municipalities included in this operation are Aldea del Fresno, Cadalso de los Vidrios, Cenicientos, Chapinería, Colmenar del Arroyo, El Escorial —due to the evacuation of the Peralejo district—, Fresnedillas de la Oliva, Navalagamella, Navas del Rey, Pelayos de la Presa, Robledo de Chavela, Rozas de Puerto Real, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Santa María de la Alameda, Valdemaqueda, Villa del Prado, and Zarzalejo.
The regional government has also adopted measures to minimise the impact on residents regarding connectivity and telephone communications, a key service during an emergency of this nature.
Logistical support and reconstruction plan
In addition to guaranteeing supplies, the Community of Madrid will provide these municipalities with a fleet of pick-up type all-terrain vehicles to support cleaning and waste collection efforts resulting from the fire.
The device includes more than 500 service days during the first month for street cleaning tasks, removal of plant debris and burnt materials, transportation of belongings, and support for municipal brigades and emergency services that continue to work in the area.
These actions are part of the reconstruction plan for the Sierra Oeste, a set of nearly fifty measures in the short, medium, and long term to support the municipalities and affected families. The aim is for residents to quickly return to their daily lives and for the municipalities to restore normalcy in their infrastructure and services.
The coming days will be crucial to assess the damage and prioritise actions, while emergency teams continue to work on the ground.
