The regional government has delivered nearly half a million kilos of forage to livestock farms damaged by the fires in the Sierra Oeste. The Director General of Agriculture visited several affected farms on Monday.
The Community of Madrid has already delivered 496,750 kilos of forage to farms affected by the fires that ravaged part of the Sierra Oeste last summer. This measure is part of the aid package initiated by the regional government for the reconstruction of the burned areas.
The Director General of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Ángel de Oteo, visited two livestock farms in Navas del Rey and Colmenar del Arroyo, as well as an agricultural farm in Villa del Prado, to assess the damage and the arrival of supplies on-site.
In Villa del Prado, De Oteo also held a meeting with agricultural organizations UGAMA, AGIM-COAG, ASAJA, UPA and UCAM to analyse the situation arising from the emergency and coordinate the next steps.
The regional official also visited the wineries Bernabeleva and Las Moradas, both in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, where he assessed the damage caused by the fire and met with the affected winemakers and the president of the Denomination of Origin Wines of Madrid.
The delivery of forage is one of the urgent measures to support livestock after losing pastures. This distribution adds to other lines of aid that the regional government is channeling to recover agricultural and winemaking activity in the region.
Farmers and ranchers in the Sierra Oeste can request information about the aid at the regional agricultural offices of the Community of Madrid.
