The city of Pinto has celebrated its festivities in honour of Our Lady of Carmen with a procession and mass that gathered hundreds of faithful. The day combined religious acts and a popular serenade.
The Madrid locality of Pinto experienced this weekend one of its most significant religious events: the festivities in honour of Our Lady of Carmen, patroness of the community. The celebration, which annually brings together numerous locals, featured a large procession and a mass presided over by Archbishop and Cardinal Vicente Bokalic, accompanied by the local parish priest, Miguel Espíndola.
The day began with the Eucharistic celebration at the sports hall of the Cultural Centre, a space that became too small due to the influx of faithful. Subsequently, the image of the Virgin paraded through the streets of the municipality amidst songs and flower petals, in a procession that included families, servers, and groups of horse riders.
Institutional presence and municipal support
Local authorities attended the event, led by the mayor Jorge Leguizamón, along with the president of the Deliberative Council, Edgardo Álvarez; the Secretary of Government, Angol Álvarez; and the Director of Culture, Ramona Antón. They all welcomed Cardinal Bokalic and thanked him for his pastoral visit to the city.
The Pinto City Council reiterated its commitment to support the Church's activities and promote values such as peace, respect, and coexistence among neighbours. Father Miguel Espíndola, for his part, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the municipality for pastoral and community initiatives.
Serenade and popular music to close the celebration
After the liturgical acts, the community continued the celebration with the traditional Serenade to the Virgin of Carmen, an event that combined music, culture, and popular devotion. The evening featured performances by Corozo Monje, Las Voces de Pinto, Yeni Torres and her group, among other artists, who offered their interpretations in tribute to the patroness.
The festivity, which annually gathers the entire community, served to strengthen the bonds of faith, identity, and belonging among the people of Pinto. For the locals, this event represents a moment of gathering and tradition that is repeated from generation to generation.
The festivities in honour of the Virgin of Carmen are celebrated every 16th of July, although in Pinto the main events are moved to the nearest weekend to facilitate participation. Those who missed it can already mark their calendars for next year's event.
