The Collado Villalba Town Hall is launching a special cleaning and maintenance operation for the patron saint festivities, from July 22 to 26, with 26 additional staff and four electric blowers to reduce nighttime noise.
The Collado Villalba Town Hall has announced a comprehensive cleaning and maintenance operation for the Santiago Apóstol festivities, which will take place from July 22 to 26. The usual staff, composed of 92 workers, will be increased by 25% with the addition of 26 reinforcement staff, as reported by the Councillor for Urban Planning and Environment, Adán Martínez.
The operation will be distributed across three shifts: 72 workers will work in the morning, 29 in the afternoon, and 17 at night, supported by collection trucks, sweepers, pressure washers, and street sweepers. The aim is to keep the most frequented areas during the festivities in perfect condition, such as the fairground, Plaza de los Belgas, the Youth Tent, Calle Real, and the Aromas Park.
Less noise and more sustainability
As a new feature for this year's festivities, the cleaning service will incorporate four electric blowers, which will replace traditional petrol ones for early morning tasks. This measure aims to reduce noise pollution during residents' rest hours, a long-standing request during local festivities. Additionally, Plaza de los Belgas will once again feature a “beautifier”, a visual screen that conceals the container collection point and enhances the aesthetics of the area.
Councillor Adán Martínez has highlighted that “with this special operation, we are providing the city and all its residents with a significant increase in public resources during a period when Collado Villalba welcomes numerous visitors.” The councillor emphasized the government team's commitment to sustainability and community well-being, opting for quieter and more environmentally friendly machinery.
Areas of special attention and schedules
Cleaning services will be intensified in the busiest areas, such as the fairground, Plaza de la Estación, Cordel de Valladolid, and the parks of the Health Centre and Pinar de las Eras. In these areas, the frequency of container collection will be increased, and daily street washing will be carried out to prevent dirt accumulation. Special care will also be taken of the meadows, which often suffer damage during crowds.
The schedule for the special operation will adapt to the festive programme, with nighttime reinforcements until the early hours of the morning to ensure that the areas are clean at the start of each day. Residents living near the busiest areas will notice a significant improvement in street cleaning and odour reduction, according to municipal sources.
A precedent that makes a difference
Collado Villalba implemented a similar reinforcement during the 2022 festivities, but without the addition of electric blowers. Last year's experience, with occasional complaints about machinery noise in the early hours, has led the Town Hall to opt for this quieter alternative. Residents of the old town, especially those on Calle Real and nearby, will be the primary beneficiaries of this improvement.
For attendees at the festivities, the municipal recommendation is to dispose of waste in the designated containers and respect collection schedules. The Town Hall reminds that during these days, the cleaning service will be operational 24 hours, with special attention to nightlife areas.
