The Getafe City Council has put out to tender the replacement of metal halide projectors with LED lights at the football and rugby fields of the Municipal Sports Centre El Bercial for €227,172.95, achieving an energy saving of nearly 60%.

The Municipal Sports Centre El Bercial in Getafe is preparing for a lighting makeover. The City Council has initiated a tender worth €227,172.95 that will replace the old metal halide projectors with adjustable LED technology in the football and rugby fields, while also reorganising the entire electrical installation of the complex.

A 60% energy saving

The intervention will represent a significant leap in efficiency. The total installed power will decrease from 104 kW to 41.6 kW, which represents a reduction of nearly 60%. In total, 52 projectors of 2,000 W will be replaced with an equal number of 800 W DALI LEDs, maintaining the number of lights and utilising the existing towers.

The new system will allow for four levels of operation: 100% for matches, 50% for training, 10% for maintenance, and complete shutdown. This way, the lighting will adapt at all times to the actual usage needs, without wasting energy.

Field-specific actions

In the football field, the four 18-metre towers will retain their structure but will see the current 24 projectors replaced with new LEDs. The installed power will drop from 48 to 19.2 kW. In the rugby field, the six 19-metre towers will also maintain their layout, with 28 units being replaced, reducing power from 56 to 22.4 kW.

The multipurpose court and the interior lighting of restrooms and changing rooms are initially outside the main scope, but their modernisation is included as a valued improvement in the companies' bids. Those presenting the best proposals in these areas could earn up to 70 points out of a total of 100.

Additionally, the four current electrical supply points will be unified into a single centralised supply from Ecuador Avenue, a new main panel will be installed, and lines, protections, and emergency lighting will be renewed to bring the installation up to current regulations.

Deadlines and awarding criteria

Interested companies have until 3 August to submit their bids. The execution period for the works will be three months from the start date. The evaluation of proposals will be divided into three blocks: the economic offer (up to 20 points), improvements in the lighting of sports facilities (up to 70 points), and extension of the warranty period (up to 10 points).

With this action, the Getafe City Council aims not only to modernise facilities that have been using obsolete technology for years but also to reduce the electricity bill and the environmental footprint of the complex. Residents will be able to enjoy better-lit fields and, in turn, contribute to the municipality's energy savings.
