The Town Hall of Tres Cantos has decided to suspend the programme of activities organised for the observation of the solar eclipse on August 12. This measure responds to the risk situation due to high temperatures and the complex context of forest fires affecting the Community of Madrid this summer.
In order to protect public safety and minimise any possibility of fire in areas of high ecological value, the Town Council has also announced access restrictions to the Valdeloshielos estate. Vehicle entry to this area, particularly sensitive due to its proximity to El Monte de El Pardo, will not be permitted.
Despite the cancellation of collective activities, the Town Hall wants residents to enjoy the astronomical phenomenon individually and safely. To this end, 400 certified glasses will be made available for free, on a first-come, first-served basis, until stocks last, at the access control of the Town Hall building.
The Town Hall of Tres Cantos calls for the responsibility of all those planning to view the eclipse from open spaces.
The Town Council urges citizens to take extreme precautions and maintain responsible behaviour towards the environment, avoiding any actions that could cause a fire outbreak. They also remind the importance of following visual health recommendations for observing the eclipse with maximum safety.
The distribution of glasses will begin immediately and will continue as long as there are units available. Interested individuals are advised to arrive early, as demand is expected to be high.
