AEMET issues a warning for storms in Sierra Norte and forecasts highs of 35ºC in the Henares Corridor. Northern Madrid will experience a Friday of thermal contrasts with evening showers.
Residents of the northern Community of Madrid are preparing for a Friday of intense heat and storms. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its forecast for this July 10, indicating that temperatures will approach 35 degrees in municipalities such as Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes, while thunderstorms with hail may develop in the afternoon, especially in the Sierra areas.
Suffocating Heat in Low Areas
The day's minimum will be 22 degrees in Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes, with a thermal sensation reaching 35 degrees. In Tres Cantos, the mercury will hit 34 degrees, and in Colmenar Viejo, it will also reach 34, although with a relative humidity of 21% that will make the heat more bearable. In Algete, the maximum will also be 35 degrees, with a light north wind at 4 km/h.
In the Sierra towns, such as Becerril de la Sierra and Miraflores de la Sierra, temperatures will be somewhat milder, with highs of 31 degrees. However, AEMET warns that the afternoon will be more eventful there: very cloudy skies with storms and little rain are expected, and hail is not ruled out.
Evening Storms and Wind Gusts
The meteorological agency details that there will be intervals of high cloudiness that will clear by the end of the afternoon, but during the central hours, daytime development clouds will form. This will lead to thunderstorms that could be accompanied by strong wind gusts and, locally, hail. The wind will be light and variable, tending to a southern component, and will intensify during the storms.
In Manzanares el Real, the forecast indicates that at 18:00 the sky will be cloudy with little rain, while in Soto del Real, a very cloudy sky is expected without precipitation. In Guadalix de la Sierra, the morning will start with cloudy intervals and little rain, but the afternoon will clear up. In El Boalo, the afternoon will bring cloudy intervals with little rain.
Advice for Local Residents
In light of this situation, local councils recommend that citizens take extra precautions during the hottest hours, between 14:00 and 18:00, and avoid outdoor sports during these times. They also advise carrying an umbrella or waterproof jacket if staying in the Sierra in the afternoon, as storms may be locally intense. Drivers should be cautious of possible wind gusts and hail, which can reduce visibility and make the road slippery.
For tomorrow, Saturday, July 11, AEMET forecasts a clear day across the northern area, with even higher temperatures: Alcobendas is expected to reach a maximum of 37 degrees, and San Sebastián de los Reyes, also 37. The sun will shine without clouds, making heat the absolute protagonist of the weekend.
