The Community of Madrid will invest €18.5 million in 1,657,000 doses for the upcoming campaign. The adjuvanted vaccines, for those over 60, make up the majority of the order.
The Community of Madrid has secured the supply of vaccines for the next seasonal flu immunisation campaign. The regional government has awarded contracts for the purchase of 1,657,000 doses for a total amount of €18.5 million, according to the regional government.
Of the total, 1,117,000 units correspond to adjuvanted vaccines, which include a substance that enhances the immune system's response. These doses are particularly indicated for people aged 60 or older and residents in senior centres, the group at the highest risk of complications.
Another 540,000 doses will be allocated to the population aged between 5 and 59 with risk conditions and to infants aged between 6 and 24 months. Additionally, 3,000 units have been reserved for individuals with a history of allergy to certain components present in other vaccine preparations.
The Ministry of Health reminds that vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent seasonal flu, its complications, hospitalisations, and deaths due to this cause. In the region, these campaigns have been carried out continuously since 1991 and the target groups have been expanded according to scientific evidence.
The last campaign, conducted between 15 October 2025 and 31 January 2026, maintained coverage similar to the previous year: it reached 64.9% of those aged 65 and over, 9.6% of the population aged between 5 and 59 with risk conditions, and 45% of children aged between 6 and 59 months.
As every year, the Ministry of Health will inform Madrid residents of the start date of the campaign as it approaches. Meanwhile, at-risk groups can consult their health centre for specific indications for the upcoming season.
