Teatro La Latina, in the heart of traditional Madrid, is programming seven titles from the Spanish lyrical repertoire throughout the summer, with 'La Revoltosa' and 'La verbena de la Paloma' as the main attractions.
During the festivities of San Cayetano, San Lorenzo, and La Paloma, Teatro La Latina (Plaza de la Cebada 2) has been hosting the summer cycle 'Zarzuela en La Latina', organised by the producer L'Operamore. Until the end of the season, attendees can enjoy seven classic titles from the Spanish lyrical repertoire, with a special focus on the género chico, Madrid zarzuela, and grand zarzuela, as well as the opera 'La Traviata' as the grand finale.
All performances are presented with live voices and orchestra, taking place from Wednesday to Saturday at 20:00, while on Sundays the curtain rises at 19:00. This weekend features the third piece of the cycle: 'La Revoltosa', a pinnacle work of the genre with music by maestro Ruperto Chapí, which is on the verge of celebrating its 130th anniversary.
It will be followed by the renowned 'La verbena de la Paloma', which will be performed on the same days as the festival it is named after, continuing afterwards with 'El barberillo de Lavapiés', 'Luisa Fernanda', 'La tabernera del puerto', and 'La Traviata'. The baritone Marco Moncloa, director of L'Operamore, explained in an interview that the cycle aims to bring zarzuela closer to all audiences in such an emblematic setting as La Latina.
