Madrid City Council has announced traffic disruptions in the centre of the capital for this Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, due to several protests. The restrictions will affect streets such as Alcalá, Gran Vía, Paseo de la Castellana, and other main roads.

The City Council has established a special traffic plan for the next two days due to several gatherings expected in the city centre. The restrictions will affect key streets such as Alcalá, Gran Vía, and Paseo de la Castellana, as reported by the Council. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and opt for public transport to avoid congestion.

Disruptions on Tuesday, July 14: morning and afternoon

The first incident will take place this Tuesday between 9:30 and 12:00 on Calle Alcalá, in the stretch between Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol. This area, with high pedestrian and vehicular density, will be closed to traffic during that period. Traffic will be interrupted on one of the busiest axes in the Centro district.

In the afternoon, complications will be greater. Between 19:30 and 22:00, the restrictions will extend to a wide area including Plaza de Cibeles, Paseo de Recoletos, and Paseo de la Castellana. Streets such as General Martínez Campos, Eloy Gonzalo, Plaza de Quevedo, San Bernardo, Alberto Aguilera, Serrano Jover, Princesa, Gran Vía, Alcalá, Sevilla, Plaza de Canalejas, Carrera de San Jerónimo, Plaza de las Cortes, Plaza de Neptuno, and Paseo del Prado will also be affected. These are essential routes for mobility in the centre and surrounding neighbourhoods, so delays and diversions in access to the heart of the capital are expected.

Disruptions on Wednesday, July 15: morning and midday

On Wednesday, the disruptions will begin again between 9:30 and 12:00 on Calle Alcalá, in the same stretch as the previous day. Subsequently, between 11:00 and 13:30, the closures will move to the southern area of the Retiro and Arganzuela districts. The restrictions will affect Calle Méndez Álvaro and Comercio, as well as Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona, a key route for those entering or leaving Madrid from the east and southeast.

The City Council warns that these times are approximate and that the duration and extent of the restrictions may vary depending on the development of the gatherings and the security needs determined by the authorities. The Municipal Police may implement diversions on nearby streets to ensure the safety of attendees and other users.

Recommendations for drivers

In addition to the traffic disruptions, some lines of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) that operate in the affected areas may experience changes to their routes. It is recommended to check updated information before starting any journey. For residents of the capital, the best option will be to avoid driving in the centre during the hours of the gatherings and use the metro or EMT to minimise inconvenience.

The Council reminds that these measures aim to balance the right to protest with urban mobility, and apologises for the inconveniences caused. The disruptions will mainly affect private drivers and taxis, but also intercity buses passing through the centre.
