The Joaquín Blume Sports City in Torrejón de Ardoz will become the epicentre of national frontenis during the last weekend of July. The National Frontenis Pre Promo Grand Prix will bring together young talents from across the country in the benjamín, alevín, and infantil categories, with free entry for the public wishing to enjoy this sport.
Children's Champions, Main Attractions
The competition will feature the presence of the current Spanish children's champions, Álex González and Bruno Vázquez, both from Madrid, who arrive as strong favourites. Although most participants come from the Valencian Community, the powerhouse of national frontenis, the Madrid representation promises to put up a fight at home.
In total, athletes are expected from Valencia, Alicante, Castellón, Guadalajara, Toledo, Jaén, Málaga, Valladolid, and Segovia, in addition to the Madrid Community itself. A total of nine provinces demonstrate the appeal of this national circuit.
Tournament Format and Schedule
On Friday, July 24, the courts will be reserved for official training. The competition will kick off on Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 to 21:00 hours, with finals, depending on participation, taking place on Sunday, July 26, from 9:00 to 15:00 hours.
The format will be frontenis pre for pairs with slow ball for all categories, except for the infantiles, who will play with fast pressurised balls, which are faster and suitable for advanced levels. The competition system is direct elimination with consolation, ensuring that each pair plays at least two matches.
Torrejón, Host of the National Frontenis Tour
This Grand Prix is part of the National Open Circuit 'Frontenis Tour' of the Spanish Pelota Federation. It is the third scoring event out of a total of eight, plus the national Master with the top-ranked players. The requirement to participate is to have a valid regional federation license.
The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, highlighted during the presentation that "Torrejón is hosting national championships in various disciplines with the aim of showcasing to the people of Torrejón the wide variety of sports practiced, even from a very young age." He also reminded that this year the city is European City of Sport and that significant investment is being made in sports facilities.
The councillor for Sports and Tourism, Miriam Gutiérrez, and the vice president of the Torrejón Pelota Club, Manuel Rodríguez, also participated in the event's launch, which promises to be an exciting weekend for frontenis enthusiasts.
For the residents of Torrejón and the entire Community of Madrid, this is a unique opportunity to see the future stars of a sport with a great tradition in Spain in action. Entry is free, so there is no excuse not to head to the Joaquín Blume Sports City and cheer on the young talents.
