The Joaquín Blume Sports City will be the venue on Saturday 25 July for a test of the national Frontenis Tour Promo 2026, featuring athletes from various autonomous communities.
The Joaquín Blume Sports City in Torrejón de Ardoz will become the host of the National Frontenis Open this Saturday, 25 July, one of the qualifying events of the Frontenis Tour Promo 2026 circuit. The competition, organised by the City Council in collaboration with the Spanish Pelota Federation, will bring together young talents from the under-12 and under-14 categories.
Among the participants are the current under-14 Spanish champions, Álex González and Bruno Vázquez, both from Madrid. The event will kick off at 09:00 and will last until approximately 20:00, with free entry for the public.
The tournament is part of the national open calendar of the Spanish Pelota Federation, being the third of the eight events planned in the circuit, in addition to the national Master with the top-ranked players. The Torrejón event is the only one taking place in the Community of Madrid this season.
Participants come from various regions, with a majority presence from the Valencian Community, the birthplace of this sport. Athletes from Guadalajara, Toledo, Jaén, Málaga, Valladolid, and Segovia will also attend, making the event a national meeting point for grassroots frontenis.
The game format will be pre-frontenis doubles with slow balls in both categories. In the under-14 category, a fast pressurised ball will also be used, a faster variant intended for more advanced levels. The competition system will be direct elimination with consolation, ensuring that all participants play at least two matches.
The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, highlighted that this competition adds to the extensive programme of sports activities for 2026, the year in which the city holds the title of European City of Sport. "We are hosting a large number of high-level events, both popular and grassroots sports," he noted.
The councillor for Sports and Tourism, Miriam Gutiérrez, also participated in the event's presentation alongside the vice-president of the Torrejón Pelota Club, Manuel Rodríguez. The local club is one of the promoters of the event and works to promote this discipline among young people.
Frontenis is a form of Basque pelota played on a fronton with paddles and rubber balls. In recent years, it has gained followers throughout Spain, especially in the grassroots category, where generational change is ensured thanks to circuits like the Frontenis Tour.
For the residents of Torrejón, Saturday will be an opportunity to see the future talents of this sport in action, in a family-friendly and free environment. The facilities at the Joaquín Blume Sports City feature covered frontons that allow practice in any weather conditions.
