The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, visited Torres de la Alameda to oversee the renovation of the four paddle courts at the municipal sports centre. The works, financed with 280,000 euros from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) 2022/26, will conclude in three weeks.
The four paddle courts at the municipal sports centre of Torres de la Alameda are undergoing a comprehensive renovation that will allow residents to enjoy modern facilities adapted for the practice of this sport throughout the year. The investment, of nearly 280,000 euros, comes from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) 2022/26 of the Community of Madrid.
The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, visited the locality to see firsthand the progress of the works, which are in their final phase and will be completed in approximately three weeks. During the visit, the minister highlighted that there are currently 158 sports projects underway in 101 municipalities in the region, with a total investment of 71.5 million euros. Of these, 22 correspond to the renovation, conditioning or construction of paddle courts, to which nearly 4 million euros are allocated.
Torres de la Alameda has a total funding of 2.6 million euros from the PIR 2022/26, which has allowed for actions such as the renewal of the pavement in several streets of the municipality, worth 1.1 million. Additionally, the installation of a lift at the Our Lady of the Rosary Primary Education School (CEIP) is planned, as part of the aid line for the improvement of educational centres.
Furthermore, the Pueblos con Vida programme has involved an investment of 287,200 euros in Torres de la Alameda for the renewal of urban furniture and the beautification of various neighbourhoods. The minister placed one of the signs of this programme at the entrance of the municipality.
After his visit to Torres de la Alameda, García Martín moved to Velilla de San Antonio to supervise the renovation works of Parque Sur, which have an investment of 150,000 euros from the Municipal Works and Services Cooperation Plan. This project will provide the municipality with a more modern and accessible leisure space, with a new children's play area and a sports zone for outdoor activities. Architectural barriers will also be removed, and new urban furniture will be installed.
Velilla de San Antonio receives an allocation of 3.1 million euros from the PIR, of which more than 2.4 million are allocated for the construction of a sports centre. Through the Beautification Plan, encompassed in Pueblos con Vida, the Community of Madrid has renewed the pavement of Plaza de la Constitución, changed the furniture, and created green areas worth over 292,300 euros.
The residents of Torres de la Alameda will be able to enjoy the new paddle courts in the coming weeks, once the renovation works are completed. This action is part of the regional government's commitment to promote sports practice and improve municipal infrastructures throughout the Community of Madrid.
