The Garcilasos Foundation, based in Pozuelo de Alarcón, will premiere the show 'El Cancionero de Palacio' on July 19 at the Noches del Real Sitio Festival in La Granja. The production combines live music, theatre, and audiovisuals to recreate the court of the Catholic Monarchs.
On July 19, the Teatro Canónigos in La Granja de San Ildefonso will host the absolute premiere of "El Cancionero de Palacio", a production by the Garcilasos Foundation based in Pozuelo de Alarcón. The show, which combines live music, theatre, and audiovisual resources, will conclude the Noches del Real Sitio Festival.
A Journey to the Court of the Catholic Monarchs
The work is inspired by the figure of composer Juan del Enzina and his artistic legacy, recovering some of his most well-known compositions. It includes theatrical fragments considered among the first examples of modern theatre in Spanish. The staging will transport the audience to the courtly atmosphere of the 15th century.
According to the foundation, the show is the result of research on the Cancionero de Palacio, one of the most important musical manuscripts of the Spanish Renaissance. The production features actors, musicians specialised in historical music, and a carefully crafted visual recreation.
For the residents of Pozuelo, this is an opportunity to see a creation born in their municipality at a prestigious festival. The performance will begin at 20:00 hours and tickets are already on sale on the festival's website.
The Garcilasos Foundation, Cultural Ambassador of Pozuelo
The Garcilasos Foundation operates from Pozuelo de Alarcón and is dedicated to promoting literature, ancient music, and the performing arts of the Renaissance and the Golden Age. In recent years, it has produced shows such as "Pues amas... ¡Qué cosa es amor!", inspired by Garcilaso de la Vega, which has toured various national stages.
"El Cancionero de Palacio" is its most ambitious project to date. The foundation has worked for months on research and staging, with the collaboration of musicologists and playwrights. The result is a proposal that, according to its creators, "aims to bring a first-rate cultural heritage closer to today's audience."
Participation in the Noches del Real Sitio Festival is a boost for the Pozuelo entity. The event, held in the surroundings of the Royal Palace of La Granja, is one of the most prominent in the Community of Castilla and León in the field of performing arts and music.
Local Culture That Transcends Borders
That a foundation from Pozuelo premieres a work at a reference festival outside the Community of Madrid demonstrates the dynamism of the cultural fabric of the municipality. It is not the first time a local entity has taken the name of the city beyond its limits, but it is an example of how culture can be a vehicle for external projection.
For lovers of ancient music and theatre, this production is a must-see. Additionally, the proximity of La Granja (just over an hour's drive from Pozuelo) allows for a weekend getaway to enjoy the show and the monumental surroundings. The festival also offers other parallel activities, such as guided tours of the palace and outdoor concerts.
The premiere of "El Cancionero de Palacio" will be the highlight of an edition that, according to the organisers, has aimed to "recover Spanish musical heritage from a contemporary scenic perspective." And Pozuelo, with its foundation, will be at the centre of that golden finale.
