A fire that broke out in a flat on Avenida de Europa in Pozuelo de Alarcón forced the neighbours of the building to stay indoors for hours. Emergency services managed to control the flames without any injuries reported.
Last Thursday afternoon, a fire broke out in a home located on Avenida de Europa in Pozuelo de Alarcón, prompting authorities to confine the residents of the building for several hours. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries, although it did lead to a significant mobilization of emergency services.
Origin of the Fire and Emergency Response
The fire originated on one of the floors of the residential building, according to sources from the City Council of Pozuelo. Firefighters arrived immediately after receiving the call and managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to other homes.
Rafa Lahoz, a resident of the building whose flat is on the same floor where the fire started, recounted the tense moments experienced to this newspaper. “
We quickly went outside when we smelled smoke; the firefighters arrived in minutes and asked us not to leave the house until it was under control,” he explained.
The authorities activated the confinement protocol to ensure the safety of the residents, who remained in their homes while the extinguishing teams worked in the area. It was not necessary to evacuate the building, as the fire was contained to the affected flat.
Material Damage and Normalisation
The fire caused material damage in the flat where it originated, although the exact extent has not yet been quantified. Emergency services ventilated the building to eliminate the smoke and checked for any structural risks.
After the hours of confinement, the residents were able to return to their routine normally. The City Council of Pozuelo has reminded the importance of maintaining extinguishers and smoke detectors in homes to prevent such incidents.
This incident adds to other similar occurrences recorded in the Community of Madrid over the past year, which have led authorities to reinforce awareness campaigns on fire safety.
Advice for Residents of Pozuelo
The council recommends that citizens periodically check their electrical installations and avoid overloading sockets. In the event of a fire, the first step is to call 112 and, if possible, close doors and windows to prevent the spread of smoke.
The residents of Avenida de Europa have expressed their gratitude for the swift action of the firefighters and the Local Police, who prevented the incident from escalating. “
Thank goodness it was just a scare; it could have been much worse,” noted a local resident.
