The Royal Spanish Football Federation has made the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas available to families evacuated due to the wildfires, in coordination with the City Council and Civil Protection.
The Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, the usual headquarters for national football teams, has become a temporary refuge for families who have had to leave their homes due to the wildfires ravaging the west of the Community of Madrid and the province of Ávila. The initiative, announced by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), is part of an emergency response coordinated with the City Council of Las Rozas and Civil Protection.
According to the RFEF, the rooms in the residence will be occupied by family units in situations of special vulnerability or social emergency. They have stated that the priority is to assist those who need it most during this crisis. The City Council of Las Rozas is centralising part of the reception of displaced citizens, while Civil Protection manages the logistics on the ground.
The wildfires have already led to the evacuation of 23 municipalities, affecting nearly 60,000 people, according to sources from the Ministry of the Interior. In the Community of Madrid, 12 localities have been evacuated: Chapinería, Navas del Rey, Colmenar del Arroyo, Fresnedillas de la Oliva, Robledo de Chavela, Navalagamella, Aldea del Fresno, Zarzalejo, the district of Peralejo, Rozas de Puerto Real, Cadalso de los Vidrios, and Cenicientos. Additionally, four other localities remain confined: San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Valdemaqueda, Villa del Prado, and Pelayos de la Presa.
In the province of Ávila, evacuations affect 11 populations: Sotillo de la Adrada, Navahondilla, Casillas, Santa María del Tiétar, La Adrada, Piedralaves, Casavieja, Burgohondo, El Hoyo de Pinares, Villanueva de Ávila, and the urbanisation La Atalaya in El Tiemblo. Three other localities are confined: Navaluenga, El Tiemblo, and Cebreros. In total, 59,488 people have been evacuated and 29,132 confined, according to the latest official data.
The opening of the Ciudad del Fútbol represents a gesture of solidarity at a critical moment. The facilities, located in Las Rozas, have the capacity to accommodate dozens of people under adequate conditions. The RFEF has emphasised that the initiative is managed directly with the City Council of Las Rozas, which coordinates the reception of the displaced.
For the residents of the Community of Madrid, this measure provides immediate relief to families who have lost their homes or had to abandon them due to the advance of the flames. The residence, which usually hosts national teams, thus becomes a space of solidarity amid the emergency.
Authorities recommend that the public stay informed through official channels and follow the instructions of Civil Protection. The affected municipalities remain on alert, and emergency teams are working tirelessly to control the active hotspots.
