The seventh edition of the Summer Scenes Festival in the Community of Madrid reaches its midpoint with a weekend full of theatre, circus, open-air cinema, and concerts in over twenty municipalities.
The Summer Scenes Festival in the Community of Madrid surpasses the midpoint of its seventh edition with a schedule that fills squares, churches, and cultural centres across the region this weekend. The programme includes proposals for performing arts, early music, open-air cinema, and family activities, aimed at audiences from all municipalities.
The Performing Arts in Municipalities cycle brings street theatre and circus to towns such as Navacerrada, Moralzarzal, Valdemanco, and Quijorna. Among the highlights are Maña, by Manolo Alcántara, which develops a unique scenic language based on experimentation, and Artilusió, by the Markeliñe company, a visual theatre proposal that will also visit Alameda del Valle and Perales de Tajuña.
Javier Ariza will present Carman in Pezuela de las Torres, Valdemanco, and Villar del Olmo, while Globe Story, by El Perro Azul Teatro, pays tribute to silent cinema in Gascones and Meco. The Network of Theatres of the Community of Madrid adds shows for all audiences in Algete, Parla, and Alpedrete with Caricatos, Welcome & Sorry, La hora del recreo, and Ragnarök.
Early music is the focus of the Classics in Summer cycle, dedicated this year to Manuel de Falla on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The Váray-Sorozábal Duo will perform Manuel de Falla and the Parisian Circle on Friday in Colmenar del Arroyo and Saturday in La Cabrera, while Delirivm Musica will present ¡Handel all'Italiana! in San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Cercedilla.
Violinist Guillermo Santonja will perform The Solo Violin Before Bach in Robregordo and Becerril de la Sierra, and pianist Francisco Fierro will close the weekend on Sunday in Alpedrete with Heroes of Romanticism: Chopin and Liszt.
Until August 29, Santander Park hosts Summers in the Park, a free initiative that transforms the park known as the Third Deposit into a cultural leisure space. This week features Birakolore, a contemporary circus proposal with audience participation.
On Saturday, August 8, the Sierra Norte Regional Centre for Humanities in La Cabrera will host Rodeo, by La Banda del Otro, as part of the Cirqueando Festival, and continues its summer cinema cycle with open-air screenings throughout the month. The Lope de Vega House Museum continues with the theatrical visits Lope a la fresca, and the Picasso Museum-Eugenio Arias Collection in Buitrago del Lozoya organizes family workshops Summer with Picasso and Friends.
The Summer Cinema cycle brings screenings to numerous municipalities with titles such as Los Futbolísimos 2: The Mystery of the Pirate Treasure, Lilo and Stitch, Rondallas, El casoplón, or The Dinner.
The exhibition offerings include Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co at the Alcalá 31 Hall, which revisits the role of mythology in Madrid art from the 1980s; Ingenious Women at the Lope de Vega House Museum; and at CA2M, The Sky and the Earth, by Antonio Ballester Moreno, and a retrospective of Dorothy Iannone. The Regional Library maintains A Journey to the Sea of Shadow. Knights of Salitre, featuring works by the Antón brothers and Luis Mateo Díez.
