Cadena SER broadcast its programmes from Villahermosa del Río this Friday, in a new edition of 'L'Interior Parla', aiming to energise the municipality and give a voice to its residents.
Villahermosa del Río was the epicentre of provincial radio this Friday. Cadena SER, through Radio Castellón, moved its programming to this town in Alto Mijares to celebrate a new edition of 'L'Interior Parla', an initiative that seeks to focus on the interior municipalities and combat depopulation.
Throughout the day, the station's journalists conducted live programmes such as 'Hoy por Hoy Castellón', 'SER Deportivos', and 'La Tertulia', all from the municipality itself. The goal: to gain first-hand insight into the reality of Villahermosa del Río, a village that fights to maintain its services and attract new residents.
The morning programme 'Hoy por Hoy Castellón', hosted by Andrea Jarque, was the first to air. From 12:20 PM, microphones were set up in the town to give voice to the locals, both those who have decided to stay and those who have returned. The essence of radio blended with the daily life of the municipality, creating a close and participatory programme.
In the afternoon, sports took over with 'SER Deportivos', presented by David Costarrosa. The segment featured local sports figures who shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of physical activity in rural areas.
One of the standout moments of the day was 'La Tertulia', led by Jaume Maicas. This segment addressed the issue of depopulation, a problem affecting many municipalities in the province's interior. The mayor of Villahermosa del Río, Luis Rubio, and Adrián Casabó, general director of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), participated in a discussion about the necessary strategies to prevent villages from losing essential services.
The 'L'Interior Parla' initiative was not limited to radio. Throughout the day, various parallel activities were held, such as workshops, games, and gastronomic tastings, aimed at energising the town and attracting visitors. Local cuisine was one of the highlights, with typical products from the area available for attendees to sample.
Villahermosa del Río, with just over 500 inhabitants, exemplifies the challenges faced by interior villages. The lack of job opportunities and the emigration of young people are recurring problems, but initiatives like this aim to reverse the trend, showcasing the virtues of rural life.
Mayor Luis Rubio emphasised the importance of media focusing on municipalities like his. "For the radio to come here and tell who we are is essential for us to be known and for people to see that we have much to offer," he noted during the discussion.
For his part, Adrián Casabó reminded that the FVMP works to ensure that villages have the same services as cities. "Depopulation is a complex problem, but with initiatives like this and collaboration between administrations, we can ensure our municipalities remain vibrant," he asserted.
The day concluded with a festive atmosphere, with locals and visitors sharing experiences. The organisers positively valued the reception and hope to repeat the experience in other towns in the province.
