The Community of Madrid increases the budget for feature film production in 2026 by 50%, to 3 million euros, with new regulations that streamline management.
The Community of Madrid will allocate 3 million euros to the call for grants for feature film production in 2026, the largest funding since the creation of this program. The increase is 50% compared to the last two editions, which had 2 million each.
The Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport has approved new regulatory bases to adapt the program to the reality of the audiovisual sector. The aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of Madrid-based companies and respond to the evolution of production and financing models in cinema.
The grants are aimed at independent audiovisual companies operating in the region. They will finance feature films in fiction, animation, and documentaries, with maximum amounts of 250,000, 300,000, and 40,000 euros respectively.
Interest in these subsidies has continued to grow. Applications have risen from 68 projects in 2022 to 133 in the latest call, while the number of beneficiary productions has increased from 13 to 23 in the same period.
The new regulations eliminate the requirement to present guarantees and allow for 100% of the grant to be advanced. They also extend the justification deadlines and relax the spending execution requirements.
Projects will be evaluated based on their artistic quality, economic viability, and contribution to the Madrid audiovisual industry. Investment in the region, participation of local professionals, and connection to Madrid's cultural heritage will be taken into account.
The justification of the actions must be submitted before 1 December 2028. The call is part of the Strategic Plan for the Audiovisual Industry of the Community of Madrid 2026/29.
