A runner has been injured by a bull's horn in the sixth running of the bulls at Sanfermines, which featured bulls from the Cádiz ranch of La Palmosilla. The medical report, provided by the surgical assistant director of the University Hospital of Navarra, Arantzazu Artetxe, confirms a penetrating wound in the elbow. The injured person is being treated in the bullring.
Additionally, eight people have been treated for contusions of varying severity. Of these, three have been transferred to the Doctor San Martín clinic and five to the University Hospital of Navarra. The runners sent to the clinic have contusions in the foot and a maxillofacial contusion.
Details of the hospital transfers
Among those evacuated to the hospital, one from Santo Domingo suffers a chest contusion. Another, from the Mercaderes stretch, has a leg contusion. Two runners from Estafeta present a contusion with deformity in the shoulder and another in the elbow, respectively. A fifth, from Telefónica, has been diagnosed with cranial and maxillofacial contusions.
The medical report also states that three injured from previous runs remain hospitalized. Since the run on July 10, a man with a chest trauma remains in the ICU with a favourable evolution, and his transfer to the ward is expected in the coming hours. Another man, with a hip fracture, is in the Traumatology ward.
Hospitalised from Saturday and evolution
The runner who suffered a goring to the face in the run on Saturday, July 11, remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery. He is in the ICU in stable condition, according to hospital sources.
For the residents of Pamplona and visitors, these medical reports serve as a reminder of the risks of the runs. Health services recommend exercising extreme caution and following the instructions of Civil Protection volunteers. The next run, the seventh, will take place tomorrow at 8:00 AM.
“The evolution of the injured is favourable, but they require monitoring,” Artetxe stated.
The balance of these six days of Sanfermines already totals more than a dozen gored individuals and dozens of contusions, a common figure during these festivities. Organisers remind participants that taking part in the run is at the runner's own risk.
