The City Council of Aranjuez has awarded HPC Ibérica, S.A. the construction of an urban water park at Plaza de Abastos, next to the José Luis Sampedro Gardens, for €200,676.08. The works must be completed within three months.
The City Council of Aranjuez has awarded the company HPC Ibérica, S.A. the execution of the works to create an urban water park at Plaza de Abastos, next to the José Luis Sampedro Gardens. The contract, which has been processed under the joint contracting modality of project and work, has been awarded for an amount of €200,676.08, taxes included.
The execution period is three months, so the installation will not be operational until well into autumn. The local opposition, through the Independent Citizens' Group for Aranjuez (acipa), has lamented that the works did not start earlier so that residents could enjoy the facilities this summer.
The project includes an area of approximately 120 square meters where 16 emerging fountains will be installed at pavement level, without a permanent water sheet. The jets will be distributed following an orthogonal or radial mesh, with a minimum separation of two to three meters between them, leaving transit corridors to ensure the free movement of people.
The design will fully integrate into the environment and will feature refreshing water play systems, custom-made tanks, hydraulic pumps, electronic control devices, and sanitary water safety elements. Additionally, according to the technical specifications, the park will include water recovery through drainage grates, integrated lighting in each fountain synchronized with play programs, automatic tank refilling, and water treatment for safe human contact.
The spokesperson for acipa, Jesús Mario Blasco, has stated that “it is a complete shame that this work could not have been awarded earlier so that residents could benefit from its effects this summer.” Blasco has celebrated that the government team “is taking note of the high temperatures” that the locality is experiencing, but has demanded that this action be “the first of many that reach the rest of the neighborhoods.”
The independent spokesperson has also reminded that there are deteriorated and non-functioning fountains and hydraulic elements, such as the one in Plaza de la Unesco, and has expressed hope that “the works will be carried out within the established deadlines, without last-minute setbacks and, above all, in accordance with all the requirements set out in the specifications.”
Information about the contract has been published on the State contracting platform. The new water play area, which will be located in the heart of the urban centre, is designed as a playful and accessible space, with a high degree of safety and control, to provide relief from the heat during the hottest months of the year.
