The City Council of Getafe begins the repair works on Leganés Street this Monday, with a budget of €400,000 and in three phases to minimise traffic disruption.
The City Council of Getafe will start the repair works on Leganés Street this Monday, one of the busiest roads in the municipality. The project, with a budget of €400,000, will be carried out in three phases to reduce the impact on traffic.
Phases of the work and traffic disruptions
The first phase will be executed between Maestro Arbós and Maestro Turina streets. During this period, direct access to the La Alhóndiga neighbourhood will be maintained, but access to the city centre via this section will be restricted. Residents will need to seek alternative routes.
Subsequently, the works will continue between Maestro Turina and Estudiantes streets, and in a third phase, between Estudiantes and Rayo. The City Council has indicated that traffic disruptions will be temporary and properly signposted, although drivers are advised to be patient.
Improvement of Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout
As part of the planned actions for this summer, the Maintenance Delegation will also address the repair of the Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout, where Leganés Street ends and which connects with the Centro, San Isidro, and La Alhóndiga neighbourhoods. This roundabout is a key point for mobility in the area.
Additionally, the City Council continues to carry out other improvement works on various roads in the municipality. These include work on Madrid, Carpinteros, Zamora, Pamplona, and Valladolid streets, as well as in the parking lot of the Perales del Río swimming pool. The recovery of the two-way traffic on the livestock road of Perales del Río is also planned, once the authorisation from the Community of Madrid is obtained, with execution expected by the end of next month.
Statements from the Maintenance Councillor
The Maintenance Councillor, Roberto Fernández, explained that
“Leganés Street carries a lot of daily traffic, especially for access to Getafe from the A-42 and M-406, which is why the summer months are being used to minimise inconvenience for residents.”The works aim to improve the surface and resurfacing of the two lanes entering Getafe.
For residents, the main inconvenience will be noise and detours, but the City Council is confident that, being carried out in summer, the impact will be less. The works are expected to be completed before the start of the school year, although there is no exact date. In the meantime, drivers should pay attention to the signage and plan their routes in advance.
