The City Council of Getafe will commence on Monday, July 13, the repair of Leganés Street, one of the main access roads to the city, with a budget of nearly 400,000 euros. The works will be carried out in three phases to reduce traffic disruption.

Next Monday, July 13, Getafe will launch the repair works on Leganés Street, a key artery for mobility in the municipality. The project, which has a budget of approximately 400,000 euros, includes the renewal of the road surface, complete resurfacing of the two inbound lanes, and improvements to the Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout.

The work will be carried out in three phases to minimise traffic disruption. The first phase will cover the section between Maestro Arbós and Maestro Turina streets, and during this stage, direct access to the La Alhóndiga neighbourhood will be maintained, although it will not be possible to reach the city centre via this route.

The next two phases will be executed between Maestro Turina and Estudiantes streets, and between Estudiantes and Rayo. Traffic closures will be established in each section, which will be signposted in advance, as reported by the City Council.

A plan to minimise disruption for residents

The Maintenance Councillor, Roberto Fernández, explained that Leganés Street experiences a high volume of daily traffic, especially for access to Getafe from the A-42 and M-406. Therefore, summer has been chosen to carry out the works, when traffic is usually lighter. “We are taking advantage of the summer months to minimise the inconvenience for residents,” he stated.

In addition to the road surface repair, the project includes the complete resurfacing of the two inbound lanes to the city. Subsequently, the Maintenance area will also intervene in the Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout, located at the end of Leganés Street, which connects with the Centro, San Isidro, and La Alhóndiga neighbourhoods.

Complementary works on other streets in Getafe

These actions are part of the works programme planned by the Maintenance delegation for the coming months. Among them, the recovery of the two-way traffic on the Perales del Río livestock path stands out, an intervention that could be executed at the end of next month after receiving authorization from the Community of Madrid.

The City Council is also carrying out improvement works on Madrid, Carpinteros, Zamora, Pamplona, and Valladolid streets, as well as in the parking area of the Perales del Río swimming pool. These actions aim to improve road safety and the quality of life for residents.

For drivers who use Leganés Street daily, it is recommended to plan alternative routes over the coming weeks. The City Council will keep informing about closures and diversions through its official channels. The works, if everything goes as planned, will be completed before the end of summer, leaving a renewed and safer road.
