An electrical failure at Atocha Cercanías has caused delays and disruptions on several lines since 6:12 AM. Lines C-3 and C-4 are the most affected, with trains starting and finishing their journeys at alternative stations.

Madrileños using Cercanías have endured a morning of chaos due to an electrical failure at the Atocha station. The issue, detected at 6:12 AM, has left part of the railway infrastructure without power, forcing modifications to train schedules.

According to Adif on their social media, the incident occurred while work was being carried out at the station. Technical teams have been working since early morning to restore normalcy, but delays have accumulated throughout the morning.

Lines C-3 and C-4, the most affected

The lack of power has directly impacted train operations. Specifically, lines C-3 and C-4 are experiencing the most delays. C-3 trains start and finish their journeys at Villaverde Bajo, meaning passengers heading to Aranjuez must transfer and take a train to Parla to continue their journey.

Meanwhile, C-4 trains coming from Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes finish their journeys at Atocha, without continuing to their usual destination. This has caused crowding and confusion among users, who have had to seek alternatives to reach their destinations.

Second failure between Colmenar and Tres Cantos

To worsen the situation, shortly before 8:00 AM, another failure was recorded in the infrastructure between the stations of Colmenar Viejo and Tres Cantos. According to Adif, this incident was due to a problem with the railway traffic regulation systems at Colmenar Viejo station.

As a result, between 7:50 and 8:07 AM, trains started and finished their journeys at Tres Cantos station. Although service has been restored, delays persist across the network.

From Cercanías Madrid, they have assured that specialists are acting "as quickly as possible" to resolve the issue and minimise the impact on service. However, travellers have had to exercise patience and seek alternative routes via metro or bus.

This is not the first time an electrical failure has wreaked havoc on the Cercanías network. Users are calling for improvements in infrastructure to prevent similar situations, which affect thousands of people daily.

For residents of the Corredor del Henares and Sierra Norte, the failure has posed an additional setback, as the affected lines connect with these areas. It is recommended to check the service status before leaving home and to allow extra time for travel.
