The Governing Board has approved the project for the second phase of the Firefighters' Logistics Centre in La Atalayuela, Villa de Vallecas, with a budget of 11.5 million euros.

The City Council of Madrid has given the green light to the second phase of the Firefighters' Logistics Centre in the Villa de Vallecas district. The project, with a base bidding budget of 11.5 million euros, will be executed by the Area of Works and Equipment. The Deputy Mayor and delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, announced the approval following the Governing Board meeting on July 2.

A necessary expansion following staff increase

The second phase will complement the first, which is set to be completed in the last quarter of 2024. That intervention involved the construction of a building of 3,297 square metres primarily intended for storage, with an investment of 5.9 million euros. According to Sanz, the growing logistical demand, stemming from the increase in staff in recent years, justified the expansion.

The new building will have 6,577 square metres distributed across basement, ground, and first floors. It will house garages for first response vehicles and common work and rest areas for the technical support staff responsible for the logistics of the service.

Improvement in response times

The City Council highlights that concentrating these services in a single building will allow for proper communication and coordination. This will directly impact the quality of the service provided and improve response times in emergencies.

For the residents of Villa de Vallecas and the southern districts, this infrastructure represents an additional guarantee. The centre is part of the Southern Strategy, which includes urban, economic, and environmental actions in Latina, Carabanchel, Usera, Villaverde, Puente de Vallecas, Villa de Vallecas, Moratalaz, Vicálvaro, and San Blas-Canillejas.

The works for the second phase are expected to begin in 2025, once the bidding process is completed. Firefighters in the area will have modern and functional facilities that will facilitate their daily work.
