Neighbours alerted emergency services due to noises and a strong chemical smell. Firefighters accessed through a window and found the body in the kitchen.
This Tuesday morning has been tragic in the Las Tablas neighbourhood, in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district. A 37-year-old man, of Spanish and Argentine nationality, has been found dead inside his home at 4 Cirauqui Street, with multiple stab wounds. The events have shocked the neighbours, who were the ones to raise the alarm.
Around 10:30 am, several residents of the building alerted emergency services after hearing suspicious noises coming from the sixth floor and noticing a strong chemical smell emanating from the home. Madrid City Council firefighters arrived at the scene and accessed the property through a window, without needing to force the main door.
Discovery of the Body and First Aid
Once inside, the firefighters found the man lying on the kitchen floor, in a large pool of blood and with multiple stab wounds on his body. They immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts until the arrival of Samur-Civil Protection medical personnel. However, the medical staff could only confirm the death due to the severity of the injuries.
Inside the residence, emergency teams detected a high concentration of pepper spray, which caused eye irritation for the firefighters and medical staff. Therefore, it was necessary to ventilate the property to work safely.
Ongoing Investigation
Initial investigations indicate that the victim had been dead for a short time when he was found. The National Police's Homicide Group VI and forensic police officers have taken charge of the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the crime and identify the perpetrator or perpetrators. They have requested the security cameras from the building and the area to try to gather clues.
So far, there are no known police records of the victim, and no arrests have been made. Investigators are working with several hypotheses, including that the strong chemical smell may have come from a pepper spray used during a possible fight or attack inside the home. The man, who lived alone, held dual nationality, Spanish and Argentine.
Residents of the Las Tablas neighbourhood are shocked by what has happened. The area, generally quiet, is not a usual scene for violent incidents of this nature. The National Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.
The victim's body has been transferred to the Forensic Anatomical Institute for an autopsy, which will determine the exact causes of death and provide more information for the investigation. Advances in the case are expected in the coming hours.
