The RTVE Orchestra and Choir will perform ABBA's greatest hits at the world premiere of ABBA Sinfónico, which will mark the grand finale of the 42nd edition of the festival at the Enrique Tierno Galván Park.
On August 29, the Auditorium of the Enrique Tierno Galván Park will host the world premiere of ABBA Sinfónico, a concert in which the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir will reinterpret the greatest hits of the Swedish group. The event, which will start at 21:30, will serve to close the 42nd edition of Veranos de la Villa.
This is a production created specifically for the Madrid festival, and it is not part of any tour or previously launched show. The proposal translates songs originally conceived in pop and disco into a symphonic language, while maintaining the vocal harmonies that characterised the quartet.
The announced programme includes titles such as Dancing Queen and Chiquitita, although the organisation has not revealed the complete list of songs that will be performed that night. The ensemble will be conducted by Raúl Benavent, leading one of the most recognised musical groups in Spain.
ABBA, formed in Sweden in the early 70s, gained worldwide fame after winning Eurovision with Waterloo and built a repertoire of unmistakable melodies that has inspired musicals, films, and various style covers. Now, their legacy will resonate with the breadth of a symphonic orchestra.
The doors of the open-air auditorium will open at 20:00, an hour and a half before the start. This concert will conclude a festival that has brought music, theatre, dance, cinema, and exhibitions to various districts of the capital since July.
