Vice President María José Pinto fulfilled her agenda in Ambato with technical visits to child development centres and meetings with the business sector to enhance public-private responsibility.
The Vice President of Ecuador, María José Pinto, toured the city of Ambato, in the province of Tungurahua, on Friday to supervise social programs and strengthen partnerships with the private sector. The day focused on early childhood care and territorial development.
Visit to the Child Development Centre
In the morning, Pinto arrived at the “Plaza Mayorista” Child Development Centre (CDI), located in the Tres Carabelas area. There, accompanied by a medical brigade, she attended to 36 children aged between 1 and 3 years, as well as breastfeeding mothers from the locality.
During the visit, comprehensive health checks, dental evaluations, and vaccinations were carried out. The Vice President highlighted the importance of these spaces to ensure child welfare in vulnerable areas.
Dialogue with Local Business Leaders
In the afternoon, Pinto held a discussion with 20 members of the Ambato Chamber of Commerce, led by its president, José Luis Andrade, and its executive director, Danilo Salazar. The aim was to present the strategic axes of the Vice Presidency and consolidate a joint roadmap.
The Vice President presented an analysis of the social gaps in the province and invited the associations to join the project “Flourishing Schools”. Topics such as the Mental Health Pact, exclusive breastfeeding, and child nutrition were also discussed.
The business leaders expressed their support for the social management and committed to working together for the children of Tungurahua, recognising that investment in children is key to social progress.
Regional Context
Tungurahua is a positive reference in the implementation of the Bilingual Intercultural Education Model (MOSEIB), surpassing the national average. This motivates further efforts to improve the infrastructure and connectivity of rural schools.
Pinto's agenda in Ambato reinforces the Ecuadorian Government's strategy to bring basic services to the most needy areas, combining state action with private collaboration. The Vice President emphasised that public-private responsibility is the engine for transforming rural areas and protecting the most vulnerable sectors.
